Meet the Trainer
APRIL AUSTIN
April has loved horses for as long as she can remember. Her love for teaching started out as just sharing her experience and joy with family members and friends and quickly developed into a passion. April believes that horses teach people how to be kind and fair, how to communicate and trust, and how to handle life’s successes and failures through the love, respect and kindness of an teammate that cannot speak.
Riding since she was 6, April comes from modest roots. She did not compete with large show barns but instead grew up learning on scrappy ponies and horses. This taught her a wide variety of tools which has helped her cultivate a training method based on understanding, reflection and partnership with the horse.
April believes we never stop learning and continues to commit to her education as a rider, trainer and a coach through weekly lessons, clinics and showing. She also studies a variety of methodologies and styles, including education through the Pressure Proof Academy under Coach Daniel Stewart. April had such a profound experience learning how to coach and train the mental side of riding, that she continued through the program to become a certified Pressure Proof Coach, one of only 16 in the country. With this knowledge she continues to help riders overcome the mental aspects of riding including how to overcome fear and perceived failure.
